Help
Us Keep the Spotlight on Darfur, Sudan
In last month's issue of the Advocate we informed you
of the Million Voices for Darfur campaign, launched by
the Save
Darfur Coalition .
The
Save Darfur Coalition is an alliance of over 150 faith-based,
humanitarian and human rights organizations. The USCCB
is a part of this coalition and recently participated
in an April 30 rally in Washington, D.C.
On
the legislative front, the Senate recently included $173
million in the Peacekeeping Operations account to support
the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) in the Supplemental
bill. The Senate also accepted an amendment by Senator
Joseph Biden that would establish an office for a Special
Envoy for Sudan at the Department of State.
TAKE
ACTION NOW!
- Save Darfur Coalition is seeking to
collect one-million postcards to send to President Bush
to encourage him to support the call for a stronger
multinational force to protect the people of Darfur.
These postcards are available both in paper (by telephoning
at 202-478-6311) and electronically at www.savedarfur.org
. We need you to help us reach that goal of one-million
postcards.
