In many states, executions have been halted because of challenges to the lethal injection process. Executions are also on hold for other reasons in a few states. It is possible that all executions by lethal injection will be put on hold while the U.S. Supreme Court considers Baze v. Rees, a lethal injection challenge from Kentucky. There have been no executions since September, 2007.
Good News! In December, 2007 Governor Jon Corzine signed legislation that abolished the death penalty in New Jersey. Click below to read the letter of commendation our congregation sent to Governor Corzine.

In December the United Nations also called for a moratorium on capital punishment.
We remember in prayer the families of the murder victims,
those who are to be executed or are on death row, especially the innocent and their families
and for all participating in executions done in our name.
We pray for all working for a moratorium to end the death penalty especially Helen Prejean, CSJ.
HOLD US IN YOUR MERCY, O GOD
