Sister Elizabeth Flavin

Sister Elizabeth Flavin died on June 25, 2020. Known familiarly as Sister Liz, she was a resident of Saint Joseph Villa since 2012.

One of nine children born to parents Thomas and Anne, Liz attended Holy Spirit Grade School in Sharon Hill, PA and Holy Child Academy. Her post-secondary education included attendance at Villanova University, Chestnut Hill College, and a return to Villanova University for a Master’s Degree. Before her entrance into the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Liz worked in Medical Records at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.

After a teaching ministry that spanned 50 years, 25 at the elementary level and 25 at the secondary level, serving in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the diocese of Allentown, and schools in New Jersey, her final ministry included serving as a Unit Clerk at the Saint Joseph Villa in FLourtown.

Sister Liz forged strong relationships in religious life and was quick to acknowledge God’s guidance throughout all difficulties. She found the Mass and the Rosary as the most powerful forms of prayer, and  throughout her life enjoyed the scripture readings found in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Liz was happiest when seeing the good in others!
