Sister Mary Kathryn Quinn

Sister Mary Kathryn Quinn died at Saint Joseph Villa on December 17, 2019. Her funeral took place at the Villa on December 27,2019. A native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, she was known in her earlier years as Sister Leonilla. A proud product of Holy Infancy Parish in Bethlehem, St. Ursula grade school and Bethlehem Catholic High School, Mary Kathryn was the daughter of loving parents, Leo and Bernardine and dear sister, Leona.

Mary Kathryn entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph right after high school to begin her education to become an elementary school teacher. Well- prepared for teaching at that level, as well as at the high school level, she was also degreed in administration. Her missions included years in Philadelphia, Delaware County, Allentown, and North Jersey, and positions as principal, vice-principal and local superior.

Members of her “party”, those who entered the Congregation at the same time, gave her the nickname Leo. Fun-loving and ready for adventure, she was hailed as a memorable teacher, even inspiring some who followed, to imitate her skills in teaching. Mary Kathryn’s kindness was legendary.  She was especially devoted to her sister, Leona, also a resident at the Villa. Compassion and kindness were very evident in Sister’s last ministry before coming to the Villa. It was a new adventure for her, in Parish Family Ministry,
