In In Loving Remembrance

Sister Regina Crane

Sister Regina Crane, known formerly as Sister William Margaret , died on June 27, 2020. Jean was a resident of Saint Joseph Villa since 2014.

Daughter of William and Margaret Crane, Jean entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph shortly after her graduation from West Catholic High School.  Her family’s native parish was Resurrection in Philadelphia, and later St. Timothy Parish, also in Philadelphia.  They then moved to St. Clement  Parish in southwest Philadelphia.

Most of Sister Jean’s years of ministry were served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, with a short stint in New Jersey.  She was an elementary school teacher, a high school teacher, and later, a Life Skills Coordinator at Women of Hope, a shelter for women in Philadelphia.  Her final years in ministry included working in a high school library and as an actor-patient @ Drexel Nursing School.

A sister who lived with Sister Jean noted that Jean’s generosity was legendary in Stella Maris Parish in Philadelphia. In particular, when Jean noticed a woman, very poor and needy, she was quick to lend assistance in very helpful ways. Master cook and hostess, Jean invited Sisters from Saint Joseph Villa to a “high tea” at the Convent on more than one occasion. Her decorative style brightened the convent with pictures and other “thrift shop” finds.

Jean was a model of patience in her long-suffering for several years!
