Ready for Any Good Work
Our Ministries
From our founding days in war torn France,
through the arrival of our sisters in the frontiers of
St. Louis, to our coming to the immigrant city of Philadelphia
- a spirit of openness and flexibility to the needs of
our neighbors has characterized our spirit of service.
No wonder our Philadelphia pioneers were characterized
by their bishop as women with a "generous spirit
ready for any good work."
That spirit of service is every bit alive
today! As we respond to the needs of our neighbors and
neighborhoods, our mission of unity is a touchstone for
us, informing why, how and where we minister. We can be
found in myriad good works -- in schools from pre-school
through university, as well as in parishes, hospitals,
retreat centers, group homes, shelters, prisons, nursing
homes and counseling centers. Responding to the needs
of today our sisters work with immigrants, people with
aids, battered women, those who are homebound, sick and
dying, and with global organizations at the United Nations.
We founded and continue to sponsor thirteen institutions
which we call our sponsored
works. Each is a place where we further our mission
in response to the diverse needs of our neighbors today
Wherever we are, we carry within us a special
concern for those who are poor, and we work with others
to provide for their needs and to change structures which
cause poverty and oppression.
Although our sisters cannot respond to every need, every
good work is a possibility where God's great love heals
divisions and brings people to unity.
